The Proportion of Global Disabled Population

Ranking of Disability Rates in Various Countries Worldwide

The number of disabled people in China is approximately around 85 million, accounting for approximately 6.21% of the total population.
In France, the disabled population accounts for about 11% of the total population, with an average of one disabled person for every 10 individuals.
In Germany, there is an average of one disabled person for every 8 individuals.
In Ireland, there is an average of one disabled person for every 7 individuals.
In Sweden, there is an average of one disabled person for every 6 individuals.
Meanwhile, the proportion of disabled people in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia reaches about 20%, which means there is an average of one disabled person for every 5 individuals.
Some may question whether the proportion of disabled people in China, being lower than in Western countries, only includes those holding a "Disabled Certificate." The answer is certainly negative, as the number of people holding a Disabled Certificate in China is only about 16 million, much lower than the total number of disabled people. If we refer to Japan and South Korea, two countries in East Asia, their disability rates are 6.77% and 4.59% respectively, far below the world average of 15%.

Percentage of Disabled People in the World's Population

There are a total of 650 million disabled people worldwide, accounting for approximately 10% of the global population, of which 80% are in developing countries.
Over the years, efforts have been made by the international community to ensure the rights of disabled people and establish inclusive societies, resulting in some progress worldwide.
However, environmental, social, and legal barriers that marginalize disabled people still exist.
Disabled people continue to face varying degrees of limitations in their rights to employment, education, and healthcare.
In December 2006, the 61st United Nations General Assembly adopted the "Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", which explicitly states in Article 27 that disabled people have the right to equal employment. However, according to surveys conducted by relevant UN agencies, only a small fraction of disabled people are able to find work.
